Once you choose a theme for the christening, the other decisions come quickly. You know the colour of the flowers, the shape of the favours and how the invitation will look. Below are 13 themes for a girl's christening, each with a palette, styling for the church and the reception, a favour idea and an invitation style. A note for guests and parents new to Greek christenings: the favours, called bombonieres, traditionally hold koufeta, sugared almonds wrapped in tulle, and are handed out as guests leave. The ideas below follow that custom, but every one works with a small gift instead.

How to choose a theme

Start with the season. Flowers and butterflies belong to spring. The moon and stars suit an evening reception.
Look at the venue. A garden or an estate with greenery suits boho and wildflowers. A room with white walls can carry stronger colours.
Keep it simple. Two main colours and a third for details are enough. More tire the eye in photos.
Ask her. If she is already a few years old, she will have an opinion and will remember the day.

1. Rainbow

Loved by children and adults alike. It works best in soft versions rather than bright primary colours.

Carrying the theme into the invitation

Use the same two main colours as the styling.
Give the wording a small nod to the theme, such as flight for butterflies or a star for the moon.
