A christening theme ties together the flowers, the favours, the dessert table and the invitation. Once you decide, every other choice is quicker. At a Greek christening the favours are called bombonieres and traditionally hold koufeta, sugared almonds in tulle or a small box. Every idea below works with that custom or with a small gift instead.

Before you choose

The season. A sailor theme blooms in summer. A teddy bear warms up a winter day.
His age. A baby will have no opinion. A three-year-old probably will, and it will usually be dinosaurs or cars.
Your time. Space needs a lot of props. The little elephant relies on a few well-chosen pieces.

1. Rubber duck

Simple and much loved. Yellow brightens even a cloudy day.

Styling: rubber ducks around the font, yellow and white balloons, blue tablecloths like a pond.
Favour: a bath duck with koufeta in tulle, or a duck keyring.

2. Teddy bear

Warm, and it never dates. It suits almost any venue and season.

Styling: plush teddies on the tables, a teddy with balloons at the entrance, wood and white flowers.

3. Sailor

One of the favourite themes for a boy, for summer and for venues by the sea.

Styling: anchors and ship's wheels, rope around the vases, life rings with his initial, striped fabrics.
Favour: a wooden boat, an anchor keyring, or a jar of koufeta tied with a sailor's knot.

4. Aeroplane

For little pilots. The theme has movement and offers plenty of details.

Full of character. It suits an estate with lots of greenery.

Styling: monstera and palm leaves, safari animals on the tables, straw explorer hats.
Favour: a plush lion cub, giraffe or elephant.

A crown and a blue cape, or the well-known book with its stars and planets. Poetic and quiet.

Making the theme feel joined up

Repeat one symbol. For a sailor theme, an anchor on the invitation, the favours and the cake ties everything together.
Do not use everything. A safari does not need ten different animals. Two or three, repeated, look more considered.
